Attacking
Building a classic hi-tec base is nice,
but not always a winner. Concentrate on getting tank production
up first, and be ready to defend against your opponent rushing -
unless you rush attack first.
Whether
attacking or defending, and whether you attack first or later you
have the supply line to consider - keep adding new tanks to your
group(s) as they are built. Even when the battle is away
from your base be sure to keep adding new units to groups. Use the hotkeys to add units.
Unless
you know the map and have a good strategy then it may be better
to wait 'til you are attacked, repel then quickly counterattack.
Whatever
you attack, group your tanks and fire on one target at a time
with all your units.
Tanks
Nothing
beats a good tank battle.
If
your opponent attacked first and after the battle has no tanks
left,
then
it's a good time to regroup and counterattack. Keep adding new
tanks to group.
Tanks
are the lynchpin of Red Alert tournament play.
If
you have more tanks you are in a position to win, but bear in
mind that if your opponent is busy getting build speed up the
game isn't yours just because you win the first battle.
Learn
how to maneuvre in battle - see cantor's site for this, also
waypoints here.
Power
Most
players tend to attack power first,
as
causing low power and stopping funds are the two fastest ways to
stop enemy production.
Construction Yard
This
usually means a rush, but can be useful later if your opponent is
building ground defences.
The
Rush: Build 3 or 4 heavy tanks if soviet, 5 or more lights
if Allies.
Sneak
around and take out cy (construction yard).
Attacking
cy later in the game is not always effective, as your enemy
already has an established base to build tanks with and can be
decimating your tanks while you are attacking buildings.
Ore refineries or War factories
But
alternatively you can effectively cripple production by taking
out other key buildings. Attacking ore refineries or war
factory is good if you have sufficient firepower, and if you can
destroy them - no ore refinery = no funds, and war factories are
expensive, slow to build and essential.
But
only attack buildings if you have managed to outshoot or
outmaneuvre enemy tanks.
Ore Trucks
Always
kill trucks if you find them. Mostly they are unguarded.
If
you know the map at all well you know where to look.
Teslas
Of
all the base defence buildings this is the most effective, but is
easily killed.
*
Important * If the enemy base defences include tanks and teslas,
take out the tesla first.
Attack
with all your tanks and it will only do minimal damage to your
squadron - 1 tank, 2 at most.
If
you drive straight through using Q and attack the tesla first
then you can even take it out without losing any units.
Although
possible to do, attacking a tesla with light tanks is not the
easiest unless you can keep them all moving. (I have done it with
as few as 6).
While
moving, any unit has to withstand only 40% of the tesla's power -
ie tesla is less than half as effective against moving units as
it is against stationary units.
Other
Keep tanks grouped.
When
advancing across map, go to an open or defensible point then let
them regroup if they get strung out,
then
move on when they are together again.
This came out in a chat - thanks
USMADTANK: - Using x - scattering units - makes you a lesser
target for hit points.
But
Q keeps you moving too, and if your tanks are a tight group,
as
they can be if you Q right, enemy tanks cant all fire at one
target.
