This Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf D semi-tracked medium personnel carrier is in an outdoor display in the Muzeum Wojska Polskiego (Museum of the Polish Army) in Warsaw, Poland. Same vehicle was captured by the soldiers of the Polish Home Army (Armia Krajowa - AK) on August 14th of 1944, during the Warsaw Uprising in the Powisle district of Warsaw. It originally belonged to 5th SS Panzer Division "Wiking", which took part in the fighting against the uprising. The German balkenkreuz was replaced with a Polish "szachownica" (checkerboard) and was nicknamed "Jas" (Johnny). On August 23rd, it was renamed "Szary Wilk" (Grey Wolf) after one of fallen AK commanders. Polish soldiers modified the vehicle for city fighting by adding armor plates over the open fighting compartment and front wheels along with modifications to the MG shield. Grey Wolf took part in the fighting in and around the Powisle district until September 6th of 1944. Polish Home Army also captured another vehicle of this type on August 7th of 1944, during the fighting in the Starowka (Old City) district, but it did not see much action. It had a Polish eagle painted on the front hull and word "Starowka" and number "101" painted on the side.
