Batting Caps"I recently found a vending machine for kids (at Pathmark in Eatontown, NJ) that sells plastic baseball batting caps which are prefect for Joes with painted heads. You might want to check out what's in your area (if you are interested)." -- JM"Another thing you can do with these caps is cover them with cloth, using the plastic as a base. They can make a nice "cloth" cap. I.E an imperial Japanese cap." -- maddogg@indy.net
I was just at TRU with my kids (a great cover story for Household 6) and I noticed some 1/6 scale kitchen stuff for Babbs called 'Kitchen Little'. One pretty cool set was the BBQ set. We choppered in the T-bones and the beer, and now my Joes are all sitting around the Weber eating watermelon and tossing back a few cold ones telling war stories. Coop
Fridge MagnetsI also saw some Joe size telephones at Wal Mart. They are 'fridge magnets and were in the housewares section. There was a pay phone (just like the one in Tomart's Charlee Flatt article picture of Spiderwoman) and an office-type desk phone. The desk phone would look good in a REMF office! -- Rob Sorrels
Only the M-16 and the AK-47 are to scale for Joe. The other 4 are either too large (FAMAS, HK MP5 and Uzi) or small (M60) in scale to make any sense for Joe. But solely as a toy they are worth the price as they are very beautifully detailed and have heft as they are metal. -- JGGoh The consensus here appeared to be that the MP-5 was just the right size. -- Tomm Leber The MP5 is the only one that is close enough to 1/6 to make any sense. I have measured it against the real thing. The M60 is a little on the small side, particularly in the grip; UZI and FAMAS are too large. I measured the UZI against the real one. The M16 and AK are about OK. It all depends on what the measuring basis is. The MP5 is right on for the Vintage/ME Joes. The FAMAS and UZI are a good fit for HOF hands. -- Mark H. Walsh The MP5 fits the CC SAS Joe perfectly. The Uzi is a little large for the original Joes, but fits ok in those gigantic lunch hooks on the newer ones. -- Patrick Scalia
It holds two 12" figures, and it sells for $12.99. It looks like a newer style Jeep, not an older model. -- Mark Threadgill Its pretty cheap. At least its not expensive. I think its worth the cost but it looks very plasticy if you know what I mean. -- Mark I got one for my 2 year old and its great. Don't use the stickers or add on pieces though. I just left the jeep plain. We've run it down stairs, jumped sidewalks and crashed into walls. We only have one minor crack on the side. The suspension is pretty good and the rollbars keep joe in one piece. Its also easier to fit 4 joes in one than some of the other jeeps. -- Kevin Hinzman Its alright for the money, but it is not a military vehicle at all. It's nice for kids to play with but not for anything else. -- G.A. Green Where ever you might find a gum machine to lure quarters away from kids, look to see if there's one that dispenses hand guns. The names of the stores are varied depending on where you are in the country. Here's a photo of what you might find curtesy of John G. Dutton with identification by Steve Harrison:
Note that they all come with a key chain loop but some were trimmed before the photo was taken. MotorcyclesI found a perfect dirt bike for G.I. Joe. It is 1:6 scale and is created by "New-Ray Toys Co., Ltd". The one I bought is a Honda XR 400R; it was the only style K's Merchandise (very similar to Service Merchandise) had. They were selling it for $25. It is the best quality I have seen. -- Zoombie
At Kmart, I saw a "vintage" Marx motor cycle from 1953 for $20. I place quotes around vintage because that is what they call it. It is supposedly made from original molds and it looks to be pretty close to 1/6 scale. -- Joe Shhipley I've been looking at the one at Kmart for a couple of weeks now. It looks a bit small, but could be the basis for a 45" Army Harley like these:
The Red Marx Harley is approx. 1/8 scale. It's more suitable for an 8" than a 12" figure. There are however, some diecast tools (hammer, car jack, wrench...etc.) that comes with it that are suitable for 1/6 scale but that's about it. My son has one and it looks much better with his Power Ranger sitting on it than a CC Joe. The scale discrepancy is very noticeable. -- Paul
I found a key chain with a "Coleman" latern that lights up at Walmart in the sporting goods isle. It looks to be Joe size (1/6 scale). They had two different types of lanterns. One was green (modern type) and the other was red ("old fashion" style). It didn't cost much either - 1.96. Now Joe has a Coleman lantern (that works) to go with the rest of his gear! -- >The Bear Target also has an almost identical Greatland version for about half the price. -- Tom Calhoun GI Joe® is a trademark of Hasbro, Inc. |
