W. MUIR & Co Contract Rifle Muskets

William Muir of Windsor Locks, Conn., contracted with the War Dept. to manufacture regulation model 1861 rifle muskets in 1861.
All muskets delivered were of the model 1861 type. Lockplates were usually marked with an eagle over US in front of the hammer and to the right of these Wm Muir & CO over
WINDSOR LOCKS CT in two lines. The date was marked behind the hammer.
