A. M. BURT & J.T. HODGE Contract Rifle Muskets

Addison M. Burt & James T. Hodge of New York, NY., contracted separately with the War Dept. to manufacture regulation rifle muskets.
They jointly rented the Trenton Locomotive & Machine Co. to produce the weapons.
All rifle muskets , from both contractors, delivered were of the model 1861 type with the lockplates marked TRENTON. Specimens exist having
TRENTON lockplates and stamped on the stock flat opposite the lock with A. M. BURT or J.T. HODGE indicating that they marked
their arms to keep track of contract deliveries
