Legion Post urges veterans to send for Certificate

WAYMART - The Commander of Waymart American Legion Post 889 is urging all veterans of the Armed Services to send for their Cold War Recognition Certificate.

Commander Burton Chapman said the Certificate honoring the servicemen and women and federal employees for their contributions in ending the Cold War was long overdue. " They helped win the 'War That Never Was' by training to be the best. It's time they were recognized for their contribution."

All members of the armed forces and qualified federal government civilian personnel who faithfully and honorably served the United States anytime during the Cold War era, which is defined as Sept. 2, 1945, to Dec. 26, 1991, are eligible for Cold War Recognition Certificates. To get your certificate, send a letter confirming your discharge from the Armed Services was Honorable or if you were an eligible federal civilian employee, that the character of your service was honorable. You must include documents for proof of service. Any official government or military document with recipient's name, Social Security Number/Military Service Number/Foreign Service Number and date of service is acceptable. (Send only copies. These documents will not be returned.)
