C-123 Provider

Mission

The C-123 provider was the workhorse of the USAF in Vietnam and Laos. The aircraft was made famous by the movie Air America, starring Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr.

The movie was made after a real covert operation by the CIA. One of the several secret "airlines" created by the CIA in the 1970s and 1980s, Air America handled dubious transport missions which often involved narcotics and weapons smuggling.

No C-123 Providers remain in active service today, and some of them are probably stored at the US AMARC facilities.
