Transportation Investigators are duly appointed law enforcement agents of the Department of Transportation charged with protecting the public from unsafe illegal transportation services such as illegal cabs, buses and private ambulances. In addition they investigate criminal acts related to thefts of public transportation revenue and property of the Department of Transportation.
Investigators are authorized State of California peace officer powers to enforce State, Federal and Local Municipal Codes pertaining to public transportation, issue citations, make arrests and obtain criminal history information in the course of investigations. Investigators have the same arrest authority (California Penal Code 836) as city police officers and complete California Peace Officer Standard Training (POST).
The mission of Transportation Investigators is to improve the quality of life in our community by increasing the safety of public transportation.All Investigators have previous law enforcement experience prior to being selected for this specialized public safety assignment. Investigators are trained professionals dedicated to serving the citizens of Los Angeles.
