General Information

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI)

During the time of the nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands (1947-1962), it was under US administration as the easternmost part of the UN Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. The Marshall Islands became independent in 1986. All the tests (except for Operation Wigwam) that the Marine Detachments aboard the USS Curtiss participated in were conducted in the Marshall Islands.

Location

Oceania, a group of atolls and reefs in the North Pacific Ocean,
about half-way between Hawaii and New Guinea.
