The 1st Missouri Volunteer Infantry
Regimental History

"The stiffened bodies lie, grasping in death the arms they bravely bore, with glazed eyes and features blackened by rapid decay. They have paid the last penalty. They have fought the last battle. The air is putrid with decaying bodies of men and horses. My God, my God, what a scourge is war."

1st Missouri Reenactment History

The 1st Missouri Volunteer Infantry, Company "I", is a Confederate reenacting unit which is headquartered in the Kansas City, Missouri area. The 1st Missouri was first called the 2nd Missouri, Company "A", and organized in September 1998, from members of the 10th Missouri Volunteers and members of the 2nd Missouri, Company "K" who live in and around Kansas City. The 1st Missouri was officially mustered into service on November 15, 1998 at the Jesse James Farm near Kearney, Missouri. Members from both organizations saw the need to form a new unit in the Kansas City metro area. The 10th Missouri was officially disbanded to form this new unit. In April 1999, the members decided to change the unit designation to the 1st Missouri Infantry.

10th Missouri Reenactment History

The 10th Missouri Volunteer Infantry was formed in August of 1991, shortly after the reenactment of the Battle of Wilson's Creek. The group was formed from previous members of the 9th Texas Infantry who resided in the southwest Missouri area, primarily around Springfield, Missouri. The group was outfitted by a lawyer, prison guard, carpenter, IRS agent, Federal probation officer, minister, hillbilly, college and high school students and of course a complete array of slackers and ragamuffins. In September 1991, the 10th Missouri saw its first action at the Battle of Lexington, Missouri. From this engagement the group went on to participate in actions at Busiek State Forest, Pilot Knob, Bee Creek, Fordland, the Battle of Memphis, the filming of "Gettysburg", Wilson's Creek, Red Oak, Lick Settlement, Houston, and Belmont. As the elder members of the group grew older they tired of the occasional headaches and decided to throw in the towel. This also coincided with the institutionalization (literally!) of several members, the banishment of others from the group and eventually brought the demise of the organization around late fall of 1995. Several die hard members attempted a strong, but short lived resurrection of the group at events in 1997 and 1998, but in the end realized the new 10th wasn't as strong as its predecessor had been. So in September 1998 the 10th Missouri was finally laid to rest and its flags furled for the last time. Several members have since joined others in the formation of a new company of men as the 1st Missouri, and will soon be back on the battlefield in defense of our grand state of Missouri!
