One of the unsung "also rans" of WW2 was the USS LaGrange, APA 124. Comissioned in 1943 its undistinguished career took it on two runs to Okinawa where in August 1945 it was hit by a Kamakazi, killing and wounding a number of passengers and crew. I had b en passenger but had been disemarked and watched it flame up after being struck. I never again saw the officers of the outfit with whom I had tained. The LaGrange went back to Bremerton and was scrapped. I later became crew on U.S.S. Mataco, an ATF that erved with distinction until the late 1970s.

Your distaste for desecration of our flag is understandable. However, if this act of political expression is not protected, what other right of self expression will you next outlaw? Commandant of the Marines Kelly and CMH holder Kerry both support an in ividual's right to do so. I defer to their judgement. If this act of political expression, however misguided, is outlawed, just what freedoms were we protecting?

Great site. My father was a veteran of the Pacific theatre in WWII aboard an LCI(L) in the USN. I am a Viet Nam vet from an old Fletcher class DD, and Koontz class DLG in the USN. I maintain an interest in WWII, and really enjoyed your site. I will be sure to view it often. Good luck in your attempt to make admiral.
