"The Leapin Lena is 69 years old, a
modified 1927 Ford Model T touring car, that would rear up on its hind wheels
and at the same time, a cannon was fired from the backseat. It participated in
many parades and was enjoyed by both the young and old. Dignitaries who rode in
her was President Richard M. Nixon, then a Congressman in a New York City
parade.
Leapin Lena became part of the Post in 1927. She participated in parades
from 42nd and Broadway in New York City, to Main and Nason Streets (in Maynard) and the
majority of Legion Conventions throughout the New England area.
I also presented a wooden model of Leapin Lena, made by me. It was presented
to Past Commander Howard Schrieber at an occasion for his long dedicated
service to the Post. At his passing his wife Past President Jean Schrieber,
Ladies Auxiliary, returned it to me. I then presented it to the Maynard
Historical Society who returned it to me at my request."
