Information has been received that retired Chief Inspector Ganesh Prasad (5133) died in Canada on June 19 th, 1997. He was 73 at the time of his death. This information was supplied by his Robbie Prasad.


Ex Sergeant 7769 George Neville Simpson ' Deacon' October 2nd, 2000.

Simpson worked for most of his service at the Presidential Guard. After his retirement he was reemployed in the Special Constabulary and again worked at the Presidential Guard until the time of his death.

He will be remembered for his reputation as the anchor for the President Guard and Police tug o war teams.


Inspector Everoy Babb (8292). October 26 th, 2000.

Babb was a FIFA international football refree and the head of the police Sports Secretariat.He died at the Georgetown Hospital after a brief illness.


Sergeant 8793 Vincent Knights. November 11 th, 2000. Knights was stationed for a long time at the Police Transport Workshop. At the time of his death he was stationed at Impact Base Brickdam.


Detective Corporal 9471 Phillip Wayne. November 12 th, 2000. At the time of hid death Wayne was stationed at Springlands Police Station, Corentyne, Berbice.


Ex Corporal 8126 Courtney Atherly. November 20th, 2000. Atherly died last Monday (20th November) from head injuries he suffered after a fall at his home in Guyhoc Park.


CONSTABLE Stanley Henry (17120). November 23, 2000. CONSTABLE Henry, a member of the Presidential Guard was killed in the line of duty due to an accident on the Lethem trail. The father of four was killed when the Land Rover he and five other Presidential Guards were travelling in plunged some 25-30 feet into a creek while going over a bridge on the Lethem trail. They were the advance security team for the President at a Lethem event.


Sergeant Rudyard Stephens (9466), age 51, of Samantha Point, East Bank Demerara, December 21, 2000. Sgt. Stephens was a member of the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) of the Guyana Police Force. He was killed in a motr vehicle collision.


Assistant Superintendent of Police, Patrick John, 56, of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, died Saturday December 24, 2000, when his car and a mini-bus collided on the West Demerara road. ASP John was Officer in Charge of the Narcotics Division, Eve Leary, Georgetown.



Corporal Kenneth Isaacs (Zakie) (10570). Isaacs was stationed for most of his service in the interior. He died after a brief period of illness.


Retired Senior Superintendent Meredith Barker. January 1 st, 2001. Barker retired from the force during 2000. At the time of his retirement he was the Deputy Traffic Officer. He died on January 1 st, 2001, after a brief illness.


Retired Chief Inspector Hemraj. February 13 th, 2001. Hemraj lived for some time in the Providence Police Station compound, East Bank Demerara. He also lived at the Police Scheme at Yarrowcobra on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.


Constable 17227 Nigel Fredericks. February 20 th, 2001. Fredericks died following a motor vehicle accident in the North West District.


Constable 14217 Leonard Melville. March 3 rd, 2001. Melville died along with two others in a motor vehicle accident on the East Bank of Demerara public road.


Woman Constable 13750 Donette Rigby. March 18 th, 2001. Rigby who was based at the Fort Wellington Police Station died after a period of illness.


Retired Corporal Eustace Cuthbert Harding (4740) "Wheels Harding". April 1 st, 2001.


Retired Superintendent Curtis Chung (6036). April 10 th, 2001. Curtin will be most remembered for his stint at the Police Training School which spanned 1974.


Constable 16964 Carl Jeffrey. April 10 th, 2001. Jeffrey was stationed in E & F divisions.


Retired Superintendent Edmund Rudolph Jarvis ("Saggy")(5151). On Wedsesday 18 th April, 2001.

CONSTABLE Constable 17650 Eloye Adridge. June 09, 2001. Constable Adridge, died after he was shot in the abdomen while trying to disarm a detainee who had pulled a gun from his crotch inside the Sparendaam Police Station, East Coast Demerara.


Constable 17227 Nigel Fredericks. February 20th, 2001. He was stationed in "E & F Division.


Woman Constable17032 Shondell Cameron. June 9th, 2001. She was stationed in "A" Division.


Constable 17399 Adrian Carmichael.July 17th, 2001.He was stationed at the Tactical Services Unit (T.S.U).


Inspector Joe Fraser (9189). July 29th, 2001. He served for a number of years at the Criminal Investigations Department, Headquarters, Eve Leary. At the time of his death he was stationed in "A" Division.


Corporal 12847 Stanley Campbell. September 3rd, 2001. As a result of a traffic accident. He was stationed at the Criminal Investigations Department, Brickdam.


Sergeant 0966 Wilbert Samuels. September 14th, 2001. Samuels was a well known traffic rank. He was stationed in "A" Division.


Assistant Superintendent Norman Frank (8465) September 21st, 2001. Frank spent most of his service at the Police Finance Office.


Sergeant 12371 Dennis Calderia. September 29th, 2001. Calderia spent most of his service at the Police Communications Branch as an eletrician.


Woman Constable 16911 Sharon Shanks. October 31st, 2001. She was stationed at force Control.


Woman Sergeant 11518 Beatrice Ann Davenport. January 23rd, 2002. She was stationed at Brickdam, "A" Division.


Superintendent Leon Fraser. April 02, 2002. He was stationed at Target Special Squad. Died in the line of duty.


Detective Sergeant Harry Kooseram, 37. April 15, 2002. He was last stationed at the Cove and John Police Station, but due to recent heightened tension and violence in the Buxton/Friendship area, he was temporarily based at the Vigilance Police Station. Died in the line of duty.


Assatant Superintendent Lancelot Lawrence (0785). April 4th,2002, after a brief period of illness. He was stationed in "A" Division.


Constable 18521 Sherwin Martin Allen. May 25, 2002. Const. Allen was in a patrol that was shot at by men in an ambush on May 25 aback of Coldingen Industrial Estate, East Coast Demerara. He was killed. Three other Policemen were wounded in the attack which has been linked to the five dangerous criminals who escaped from the Georgetown Prison on February 23, 2002.


Rural Constable Andy Atwell. May 30, 2002. Killed during an assault by gunmen on Alberttown Police Station in Georgetown.


Corporal David Doris (15553). June 10 th, 2002. He was stationed in "E" Division.


Constable Rawle Thomas (15751). June 14, 2002. He was stationed at Target Special Squad. Murdered while on patrol duty on June 14th. at Wismar.


Inspector Roderick English (9089). June 29th, 2002. He was stationed in "C" Division.


Detective Corporal Adrian London. July 11, 2002. He was stationed at Brickdam Impact Base. He was murdered "execution-style" on Joseph Pollydore Street, two houses away from the junction with Mandela Avenue.


Corporal Phares Hinds (14142). July 16th, 2002. He was stationed at the Tactical Serevices Unit (TSU).


Constable Daniel Brewley (13701). July 21st, 2002. He was stationed in 'A' Division and attached to the Traffic Department.


Assistant Superintendent Colvin Griffith (8024). July 18th, 2002. He was stationed at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU).

Griffith was a member of the Guyana Police Force contingent which participated in the United Nations peace keeping mission to Namibia (UNTAG) during 1989-1990.


Constable Ramphal Pardat (15636). July 22nd, 2002. Pardat along with Constable Kissoon was murdered by heavily armed bandits who invaded Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, during the night of Sunday, July 22nd


Constable Outar Kissoon (11405). July 22nd, 2002. Kissoon was murdered along with Constable Pardat by heavily armed bandits who invaded Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, during the night of Sunday, July 22nd, 2002.


Corporal Wayne Paul (14771). July 28th, 2002.


Corporal Patrick Williams (0495). August 25th, 2002. He was stationed in 'C' Division. Williams died after the motor cycle he was riding crashed in to a bridge at Maichony, East Coast Demerara.


Chief Inspector Leyland October (9622). September 6th, 2002. He was stationed in 'A' Division and attached to the Criminal Investigations Department. October was murdered by gunmen as he stepped out from a shop, having purchased an ice cream cone.

October worked in several areas of the force including, Tactical Services Unit (TSU), CID Headquarters and the Court Superintendent's Office as a Court Prosecutor.


Police Constable (19219) Quincy James. December 03, 2002. He joined the Force in March 2002 and was stationed at Traffic, Brickdam. Constable James was on traffic duty - when he was murdered by a gang of urban terrorists. He was shot several times in the chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital. Constable James is the 11th policeman who was killed in the line of duty in 2002.


Police Constable (16840) Colin Robertson, was murdered on December 23, 2002. Robertson, a member of the Quick Reaction Group of the Criminal Investigation Department, stationed at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary. He was ambushed on the 'C' Field Road, a short distance from his home, while riding his motorcycle to work. Two terrorists pumped 12 bullets into Robertson, robbed him of a gold chain (valued at) $50,000 and a cellular phone and "then calmly walked away." Robertson is the 12th policeman to be killed by gunmen since April this year.


2003 Deaths


Constable (15885) Mark Latour of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Age 29. He was executed by gunmen as he walked into the Arapaima Restaurant at Main and Quamina Streets on New Years Day.Constable Latour joined the Guyana Police Force on September 11, 1992. Commissioner of Police (Acting) Floyd McDonald appropriately referred to this latest in a series of murders of law enforcement officers as a "merciless execution". The Commissioner pledged that "The Guyana Police Force will continue to resolutely seek and arrest the perpetrators of these heinous crimes against its membership."

Constable (14500) Rayon Anthony Roberts, age 32, of the Tactical Services Unit, had been a member of the force for the last 13 years. Roberts was sitting on a bench outside a Tuc Shop at NN Bent Streets when, around 22:30 hours, three gunmen coming from an easterly direction walked up to the shop and opened a hail of gunfire on the cop seated on a bench at the entrance, then walked away.


Constable (18043) Nandkumar Mohabir, who was murdered by unknown gunmen who opened fire on a Police mobile patrol in the Buxton, East Coast Demerara area. Mohabir, 25, was shot dead while driving a Police mobile patrol vehicle during Operation Saline Solution II which the Army and Police launched in the Buxton area.


Constable (17657) Mark Yaw, who was murdered by unknown gunmen who opened fire on him while he was travelling in a bus enroute to work.


Constable (18343) Deon 'Joe' Joseph was gunned down in Field E Sophia shortly after leaving home on a bicycle.


Police Sergeant Walton Brummell(0612) was gunned down on February 22, 2003, in the Buxton area while he was a passenger in a mini bus. He joined the police force on September 6, 1976. He was last stationed at the Tactical Services Unit.


Police Constable Suresh Dhaniram was slain by criminals in a mini bus in Buxton.


Police Constable Lloyd Cameron, 23, was brutally gunned-down in his Sophia neighbourhood on May 05, 2003 as he left his home to resume work after completing his vacation. He was last stationed at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).


Sergeant Cecil Sampat (8913)August 21 st, 2003. He was at the time stationed at the Criminal Investigation Headquarters. Sampat served for a number of years at the Police Transport Workshop.


Assistant Superintendent Gordon St Kitts. August 27 th, 2003. After a prolonged period of illness. He was stationed at Linden.


Inspector Edmund Paddy. December 6 th, 2003. After a brief period of illness. He was stationed in 'B' Division Criminal Investigations Department.

Retired Inspector Norman Mc Lennon (7637). Norman passes away on Saturday 27th, 2007, in the USA.


Retired Assistant Superintendent George Richards (9451). During April, 2007. Richards succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. This accident occurred just days after he officially retired from the force.

Chief Inspector Yazid Raheim, May 1st,2007. Raheim died following proglonged illness. He was on pre retirement leave at the time of his death.

Retired Senior Superintendent John. Mr. John had served as the Communications Officer during the 1970s.

Retired Superintendent Holder. Mr. Holder had been the Quartermaster.

Retired Deputy Commissioner Ivan Crandon DSM, during 2007. Mr. Crandon served in several senior command positions in the force, including, Commander of 'B' and 'C'Divisions and Deputy Commissioner 'Operations'. He was also the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

Constable 17736 Chitrine Kellawan, July 22nd, 2006. He was stationed at the Presidential Guard.

Woman Corporal W 15678 Donna Samuels,November 121 th, 2006. She was stationed in 'A' Division.


Assistant Superintendent Godfrey Wray (9515), October 23 rd, 2007, in the United States of America. Wray was in the US on leave prior to retirement. He was buried in Guyana.

Constable 17890 Micah Cort, February 2 nd, 2007. Cort was shot in New Amsterdam during an activity at the Esplanade.


Constable 18314 Safraz Yacub, March 4 th, 2007. He was stationed in 'A' Division.


Constable 14595 George Bastiani, March 30 th, 2007. Bastiani was stationed in 'B' Division.


Lance Corporal 17649 Cleon Sinclair,April 11 th, 2007. Sinclair was stationed at the Tactical Services Unit and was accidentally shot during an operation on the East Coast of Demerara.


Inspector Brian Cummings, July 31 st, 2007. Cummings spent a number of years at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters. At the time of his demise he was stationed in 'A' Division.


Lance Corporal 15624 Crandon, January 7th, 2008. Crandon died after being involved in a motor vehicle accident.He was stationed in 'D' Division.


Lance Corporal 18632 Zaheer Zakier, constable 16909 Shane Federicks and constable 19886 Ron Osbourne, February 17 th,2008. these ranks were killed at the Bartica Police Station during an armed attack on the Bartica community by armed bandits.


Retired Chief Inspector Carlton Savory (7765). February 27 th, 2008. Carlton spent most of his service at the Presidential Guard and the Tactical Services Unit. He was a member of the Guyana contigent to the United Nations effort in Namibia during 1989/1990.

Retired Deputy Superintendent Carl Gustavus Prince 'Carlos'(5530). February 29 th, 2008.Carlos was well known in the Traffic Department.


Retired Sergeant Aubrey Peters,(7490) 'Man for all season'. February 29 th, 2008.Peters spent many years at the Police Transport Workshop and was the driver of the late Commissioner Lloyd Barker.


Assistant Superintendent Lennox Wilson 'Champ'(9710). March 1 st, 2008.Wilson was stationed at the Presidential Guard.


Ex Detective Senior Superintendent Thomas Bizette (7417). March 11 th,2008. Thomas died in Canada.


Deputy Superintendent Elwood Brandt (8490). Tuesday 25 th, March, 2008. Brandt was on pre retirement leave and was due to retire from the force on April 1st, 2008.


Constable Simeon Sam (16319). Wednesday 24 th, March, 2008. He was last stationed at the Tactical Services unit.


Constable Shimshane Grant (17035). Saturday April 19 th, 2008.He was stationed at the Police General Office.


Retired Assistant Superintendent Elson Briggs (5987). Sunday May 4, 2008. Briggs was a prominent member of the Guyanapolice Band in which he was the Deputy Band Master and Drum Major.On his retirement from the Guyana Police Force Briggs was enlisted in trhe Guyana Defence Force Band where he subsequently retired with the rank of Major.


Constable Hewith English (16284). Saturday May 17, 2008. He was stationed at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters.


Ex Sergeant Nalyand King (7814)June 2008. Word came to hand that Nayland died in the USA. He is to be buried in Guyana soon.


Retired Senior Superintendent Chris Gravesande (5819) June, 2008.


Retired Chief Inspector George Beaton (7681) June,2008. Beaton served for a number of years at the Immigration and Passport Office.

Lance Corporal Michael Anthony Pratt (19359). July 29, 2008 as a rersult of a motor vehicle accident. He was stationed at the SApecial Branch.


Constable Dexter Henry (20050). June 2008, following a motor vehicle accident. He was stationed at Brickdam.


Superintendent Paul Walker (15854). August 13, 2008. Walker served on the East Coast of Demerara ('C' Division),and as the Personal Assistant to the Commissioner (PAC), among other areas of the force. At the time of his death he was the Officer in charge at Lethem.


Retired Deputy Commissioner Lloyd Stewart (6773). August 18, 2008. Lloyd Stewart was sattioned at the Research & Planning Department and the Police Immigration, as the Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, among other departments in the force. After his retirement in 1994, he was a pastor at the Bethel Church in Camp Street. He also functioned as the Chaplain of the Guyana police Force. Deputy Commissioner Stewart was buried on Wednesday August, 27, 2008.


Detective Sergeant Dwarka Persaud (18717. August 25, 2008. He was stationed at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters.

Constable Oslyn Travis Glasgow (18682). November 28, 2008. Glasgow was killed during an armed confrontation with criminals on the Corentyne, Berbice. During the confrontation three bandits were also killed.

Corporal Linsley Jackman (11829).December 14, 2008. He was stationed at the Tactical Services Unit.


Constable Marlon Elstab. (14370). January 23, 2009.


Retired Detective Assistant Superintendent Oswald 'Ossie" Erskine (5557). February 16, 2009, in the United States Of America.Before his retirement Ossie was stationed at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters as a fingerprint and ballistics. Ossie was also a popular cricket fan and ardent supporter of the Police cricket team.

Retired Senior Superintendent Malvin Peters (8334).May 4,2009. Petesr, who was employed with the Guyana Power and Light Cimpany as the Chief Security Officer, was shot and killed during an operation to disconnect illegal eletricity connections. During his stay in the Force he spent a long time at the Police Finance Office.
