Note the symbol on the left rear of my helmet, which was mirrorred on the front of my tank. It is the same symbol that appeared on the front of LTC Nat Serling's (Denzel Washington) tank in the movie "Courage Under Fire." It is the divisional insignia of my father's World War II GERMAN armor division. Throughout my 13+ years of military service, I never saw it on another vehicle anywhere.

Every morning and evening, this brew was set ablaze to burn the waste and prevent the spread of disease. The smell, best savored over a weak cup of coffee and powdered eggs, was indescribable.
