L. G. & Y. Contract Rifle Muskets

Lamson, Goodnow & Yale of Windsor Vt., contracted with the War Dept. to manufacture Special Model 1861
rifle muskets. All rifle muskets delivered were of the Special Model 1861 type with parts interchangeable with Colts's. These arms were
marked on the lockplates in front of the hammer, with EAGLE over U.S. . L.G.&Y. over Windsor Vt in two lines,
under the bolster and were dated behind the hammer, 1862. Those dated 1863 had a larger eagle on the lockplate, and those dated
1864 the eagle was stamped on the bolster face and not on the lockplate itself with U.S. over L.G.&Y.over Windsor Vt.
in three lines.
