Office of the Chaplain
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
The past year has been an amazing witness to the Lord's grace in my service as an Army chaplain. At about this time last year I was informed that my career in the Army was over and, as part of the Armed Forces draw down, I would have to exit the Army by July 1, 1997.
God, however, had other plans. Things changed because of the sexual abuse incidents which occurred at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. As a direct result of the Army's investigation, 100 additional chaplains were authorized. This created an overnight shortage of chaplains. A special board was convened and I was selected, along with three others, to remain on active duty. Then an early board was convened to consider the greatest population of chaplains in living memory for the rank of Major. I was promoted to Major on October 1, 1997.
This is an amazing testimony to the fact that what is impossible with man is possible with God. There is no one who gets the glory for this miraculous change of events except the Lord! Praise His mighty Name!
I continue to serve in the 64th Corps Support Group in the 13th Corps Support Command at Fort Hood, Texas as a Brigade Chaplain and as Pastor of the COSCOM Protestant Worship Service. I should remain here until at least January of 1999.
I was also blessed recently with an Army Commendation Medal (7th award) for work done on the Post-wide George Handel's "Messiah" Concert last December.
Please continue to pray for military chaplains as we serve in the unique ministry environment of the Armed Forces.
For God and Country,
Scott R. Carson
