My husband is a 52 year old quadriplegic, hurt in the service at the age of 18. We have been married for 16 years and I am presently 52 years old, almost 53, and had serious medical problems for the past 4 years. Despite my problems I have still had to ontinue total care to my husband because help is impossible to fine in a rural area and when found "burns out" in less then a year. I don't mind doing the care but what worries me is not being able to do it and my husband having to go to a nursing home a d leaving me when I need his support the most. We would both die being apart. Does no good to worry but sure could use some support from people that know what it is all about. Family and friend support that is always stated as very important for caregi ers is only a dream as in reality it is not there. It is so hard to understand how people can be so selfish when we as caregivers give our entire life to someone else and only want a little attention and understanding once-in-awhile.

I just found this on a URL that was sent to me and I was amazed. I take care of both of my parents in their home and I take care of an elderley gentleman twenty four seven in his home and have been here four years. Have taken care of parents for ????????? ?? I also am state tested and work out of the home whenever needed and contacted careing for the elderley and the sick and I really enjoy doing this I get pleasure in helping and giving to make their last days the best I can. I've just recently gotten a computer. I think that God has lead me to surf the net to help heal the hurt. In June this year I ended a 2 year live-in caregiver postion. It was not my choice. The man I cared for was a quad with MS who had been in a wheelcha r for over 20 years. Even though he has a wife he has to depend on others for his care. The day he was diagnosed she told him she would not do any nursing care. They have not lived together for over 5 years and she's an Episcopal Priest since 1992.He has daughter who's away at college who did more for him when she was a small child than the wife ever has. He was given a choice of her or me. As a Christian I have a very difficult time accepting her attitude towards his care. In the two years she probably spoke no more than 25 words to me alltogether. Never said thanks either. But I'm doing better than I expected I would. I still care for others who also have MS and Tuesday is reserved for rocking babies at the MOPS program at church and doing crafts afterward to raise money for missions. Would love to hear from others.

After 26 years of marriage our daughter in law decided to leave taking our 14 year old granddaughter with her. She left my son after he had been in the VA hospital for 9 months with staph infection and had to have a leg and the other hip amputated becaus the infection went into the bone. He came home and she left and he isn't able to take care of himself. My husband is 77 and I'm 72 and in a wheel chair because of a broken back and Lung dease. After she filed for devorice and got 1/2 of his pension fo spousal support and child support, he can't pay the going rate for and aide in our area and have enough left over to make his house payment and utilities and food for two. We need help finding a live in aide. I hope someone can help us.
