Welcome to Pentastar American Hairless Terriers
THE AMERICAN HAIRLESS TERRIER
The American Hairless Terrier, AHT, is a smoothed muscled, small to medium terrier. Their curiosity and intelligence makes them easy to train. They are an active, fun loving breed. They get along well with children, dogs and cats. They enjoy human companionship. The first AHT, Josephine, was born in 1972 and came from two normal Rat Terrier parents. Josephine was given to Edwin and Willie Scott of Trout Creek Kennels. Josephine was bred to another Rat terrier and produced 1 hairless. Several other breeding only produced coated puppies. At the age of 9 she was bred again and she produced 1 hairless male (Snoopy), 1 hairless female (Jemima) and 2 coated females. Snoopy was bred to his littermates to form the AHT breed. The AHT comes come in two varieties - hairless and coated. The hairless is born with a sparse coat at birth, which it sheds and leaves them completely hairless. The hairless variety needs protection from the sun and cold weather. Both come in a numerous skin color and patterns.
