Yukon Eric's Gravesite |
Every day, I receive over 100 e-mails from various people and groups. One caught my interest as it asked me about an old friend that I wrote about a few years ago by the name of Eric Holmback, who wrestled as Yukon Eric. The lady, Marcine Bice, asked me if this could be the same person as she had looked up as much information as she could and did not want to place Eric's picture on the grave if it was not, in fact, his grave. I wrote her back and said if it is in Ogallala then you more than likely have the right grave. She wrote me back and told me that the grave was near her son's and that she wanted to do something nice for it. She made a nice wreath and put some flowers near the headstone and finished it off with a picture of Eric from a website she had found. She has also been in touch with Eric's son, who is also named Eric, and they have become friends by e-mail.
I would like to publicly thank her for the kind thoughts about remembering a great man, Eric Holmback, a corporal of WW2 and a General in the ring against opponents like Killer Kowalski. He lost part of his ear in a match against Kowalski. Fritz Von Erich, Hans Schmidt, The Sheik and many others that he did battle with in the rings across our great country. For a man who helped to pack arenas throughout North America, I salute you, Yukon. May you continue to rest in peace out there in Northwestern Nebraska. May God continue to bless people like Marcine Bice, who have gone out of their way to be nice to someone they didn't know but who fought and served in our military to keep our freedom intact here in the United States.
