I can see you perched in the rain. Your face is smeared from bruised makeup. Soaked in acid falls, the world mistakens your tears for cloud drops from the sky. Every rose you held pricked your finger. Every drink you drank stupefied you even more. He kept his tongue between your lips so the words couldn't come out. Fake enlightment comes from every empty word he whispered into your ear.
At night you're tossing & turning, hugging your pillow tightly, as you imagine yourself the way you want to be [the way you deserve to be]. Darling, you bring your dreamer faery to tears.
Watch me strip you of your braclets, your shirt, your cover-ups, your denial, & all I'll see is a poet shivering with fear. If you believe in me, I'll wrap my arms around you & be your blanket & keep you from pneumonia. We have the same dark eyes & we shiver the same way. & if we lose ourselves in words, we'll become we should be.
I'll continue to be the ghost that floats above you until we break the day into something more beautiful. This is the lullaby for our separated mind.
