The former PERRY RHODAN Editor was born 1950 in Bergheim, where he still lives today. He studied History of Arts and Economics after he had finished high school. He terminated his economics studies prematurely because he wanted to become a professional author instead.
The SF comic series "Nick der Welraumfahrer" (Nick the space traveler) as well as several Science Fiction movies were his first encounter with this genre. He joined a group of interested SF fans who also published their own SF News. Her wrote several short stories for them, which, however, didn't find the response by the readers he had hoped for. His drawings and graphic creations were much more successful, though.
Horst Hoffmann knew the PERRY RHODAN und ATLAN series and followed an invitation by Chief Editor Willi Voltz to submit short stories for the Readers Contact Pages, which then were published as part of the RCP.In 1974 he started his own Fanzine »Watchtower«, a satirical fan magazine. His breakthrough as author followed in 1976 with his first novel release »Gemini 5«, »Sie kamen von jenseits der Sterne« (They came from beyond the stars). This novel was published under the alias Neil Kenwood, as well as two more of his novels, which the author had sold to the Kelter Publishing Firm via an independent agency.
In the same year, he received the chance to participate in the »Terra Astra« series as author. After Hoffmann had revised his first manuscript, his novel was released under the title: »Entscheidung auf Hades« (Decision on Hades) which was followed by several other novels. This engagement paved the way for his entry into the ATLAN and ORION series.
Several years later, he also began writing for the Perry Rhodan series. After the untimely death of Willi Voltz, he took over as chief editor from 1984 until 1987. After his famous novel »Die Macht der Elf« (The power of eleven) (1111), he quit as active Perry Rhodan author. However, Horst Hoffmann returned soon into the author circle to become one of the Perry Rhodan core authors.
So far he wrote 104 Perry Rhodan novels!
