These candlesticks are made by recycling plastic parts from a 2000ml empty soap refill plastic bottle.
Wash out any residue from the empty bottle, let dry and cut as shown in the 2nd picture above. Do not discard the first two cut-outs shown as these can be used to make a Bathroom Caddy.
CAUTION
Remember:
When using glue or
varnish work in a
well ventilated area.
Besides these two parts, you will also need
White acrylic paint
Antique gold acrylic paint (or gold glasspaint outliner)
PVA (white) glue (diluted with water)
A 1" brush and a sponge
Two containers for mixing
Shallow container for gold paint
Decorative items
Glue gun
Rags for wiping hands and working surface
In a container mix some PVA glue with a little water and brush this mixture all around the bottle parts. Let dry. This will not have any colour effect but will dry clear.
In a separate container mix white acrylic paint with some water - brush or sponge onto the plastic parts. Let dry.
Add another coat of this acrylic paint, this time sponging it onto the bottle - this layer will eliminate any brush marks (if you previously used a brush) and will add some texture. Let dry.
Prepare a mixture of gold acrylic paint (or squeeze some gold outliner) in a shallow container - dip one side or the tip of a clean moist sponge into the paint, dab the sponge a few times on a piece of paper or rag to take off any excess paint, then sponge paint onto the sides and base of the candlesticks in a gentle regular pattern - the ridges in the plastic will automatically create a lovely pattern - do not be afraid to experiment with different patterns. Remember not to load too much paint on the brush so as to obtain a even effect. Let dry once more.
Take the bottle cap and glue the top part of the cap onto the top of the candlestick - this will create a well where you can insert a candle.
Decorate by gluing decorative items like a bow, foliage, small pinecones, etc to the base of your candlestick.
Add a candle, light and enjoy!
