How to:

If this is your first project in decoupage, check out  Getting Started on Decoupage

Read over all the instructions and prepare all you need in a clean area where you can work comfortably.

Cut strips of the various tissue papers using scissors (you can even hand cut them for a different effect) in  lengths from 1 inch to about 6 inches.

Mix the PVA glue with water until it resembles a thick milky mixture.  If it is too runny, it will be too messy to work with - just add more glue to thicken it.

Brush some of the glue mixture onto the jar and gently pat one of the strips in place.  Adding more glue, carefully overlap another strip.  Continue in this pattern overlapping or criss-crossing the different lengths and colours of tissue strips until all the jar is covered to the top.  Make sure your fingers are clean after each application or the tissue paper will tear easily - use the cloth to clean your hands.

Smooth out air bubbles or wrinkles gently  -  any remaining wrinkles will add appeal to your project.

Let dry and apply one or two more layers of glue all over the jar, letting each coat dry.

Always keep your glue jar covered in between applications.

Apply acrylic matt varnish/sealer or spray to seal the decoupage.  Let dry for at least 24 hours.

Tie a rope around the top of the jar for an added touch.

To retain the lovely finish Do not immerse in water!

Add a candle and enjoy the lovely effect especially at night time, out on your terrace or in the garden!

CAUTION

Remember
:

When using glue or varnish work in a well ventilated area.

Whenever you use lighted candles, do  place them in a safe
place and
never leave them unattended especially if children
or pets are around.
