PAPER
CRAFTS
REMEMBER:
Have all materials at
hand and make sure
measurements are
correct before you
start.
PRESSED FOR TIME?
You can still make a
great gift box using
left-over (uncreased)
decorative giftwrap.
.
ADD A GIFT TAG
Use the same
technique of
sponging and 3-D
design. Attach to gift
box.
A
GIFT BAG
Designed by Doreen Scerri
Materials Needed
Skimmed milk carton (Washed and dried)
(You can vary size depending on gift – cereal
boxes can be used too)
30 x 20 cm piece of thick brown paper
PVA glue mixed 1 to 1 part with water
25 cm decorative string or cord
(Alternatively you can use 75 cm of string twisted
or plaited)
Sponge
Gold acrylic paint
Small container or palette
Corrugated or textured paper (from packaging or
chocolate boxes)
Gold or silver outliner
Covering the carton
Cut the top part of the box so that each face
resembles the above design.
(Alternatively you can omit the triangular flap).
Cover the box with the brown paper gluing it in
place including the triangles. Make sure the brown
paper does not overlap too close to the corners.
Glue the bottom part just as if you were wrapping
a gift. The given size of the brown paper should
reach up to the point of the triangles. (If you
choose to omit the flap, make sure you fold in and
glue a few cm of brown paper inside the top of the
box.) Cut a slit in the paper down to each corner
marked with the arrow and glue each piece to the
back of each triangle. Fold down the triangles into
the box and glue in place. Hold down in place
using pegs. Let dry for a couple of hours or
overnight.
Decorating the gift box
Sponge paint the front and back of the covered
box as well as your chosen textured paper in gold
acrylic paint. Put some paint in a small container
so as not to waste(a small palette or even a
margarine lid will do). You can sponge paint over
the gold in another colour. Let dry.
Cut the textured paper into triangles, squares or
rectangles and arrange into an overlapping
pattern. When pleased with the design, attach to
box using PVA glue.
Decorate the area around the 3-D design with gold
or silver outliner. Let dry.
Score holes in front and back as in diagram.
Thread cord in holes and secure with knots.
