Martin Hagger

Martin was born in 1949 and is married to Lydia; they have two sons and two daughters, but no grandchildren yet.  Martin and Lydia have lived all their married life in the Seven Kings/Goodmayes area of Ilford, Essex - only a short distance from West Ham, where great-grandfather Henry Hagger (1865-1944) settled in the 1880's (after leaving Therfield, Hertfordshire).

Like Peter Hagger, Martin is descended from Henry Hagger (1804-1863) and his second wife Eliza Gilby.  You can find further details on his website family tree' at www.hagger.org.

Martin started his family history research in 1988, and was fortunate to receive the valuable assistance of Ann J King, a North-East Hertfordshire local historian.  With Ann's help, it only took six weeks to trace a probable line back to Richard & Elizabeth Hagger, who were baptising children at Kelshall in the 1690's  No further progress (backwards) has been made in the ensuing 16 years, although the Hagger tree has been well 'fleshed out', and much miscellaneous Hagger data accumulated in the meantime.  At one time, Martin considered a Hagger One Name Study, but dismissed the idea as too large a task for one person.

But since Peter Hagger took up the One Name Study baton, and enlisted a band of helpers, it has definitely become a feasible enterprise.

Martin is a member of the Society of Genealogists, and many county Family History Societies, including (of course) the Hertfordshire FHS.  Martin can be contacted at martin@hagger.org.
