The World's Religions (1988)

Edited by Stewart Sutherland, Leslie Houlden, Friedhelm Hardy and Peter B. Clarke

Edited by Stewart Sutherland, Leslie Houlden, Friedhelm Hardy and Peter B. Clarke (1988)

The six-part and 996-page-long book, The World's Religions, provides a new and authoritative account of the complex patterns of religious development, teaching and practice in religions: (1) Religion and the Study of Religions (Sutherland ed.), (2) Judaism and Christianity (Houlden ed.), (3) Islam (Clarke ed.), (4) the Religions of Asia (Hardy ed.), (5) Traditional Religions (Clarke ed.) and (6) New Religious Movements (Clarke ed.). Individual chapters are written in a scholarly but non-technical manner by internationally recognised specialists and attempt to provide the 'inside view' so that each volume can present clearly the theological and philosophical basis of the beliefs covered, their history, expression and everyday practice.
