Found this going through some other papers of my grandmothers. Apparently she had clipped a copy of the actual obituary printed. SAMUEL G. GARBETT
Pocatello-Funeral services for Samuel George garbett, 63, will be conducted Saturday at 2pm in Downard Mortuary chapel. Bishop Heber F. Dennison, Third Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Pocatello Veterans of Foreign Wars, with George Orchard, commander, will conduct military rites.
Mr. Garbett, World War I veteran, and longtime Pocatello resident, died Wednesday night in a Pocatello hospital after a lingering illness. He had resided here since 1899, and worked as a switchman foreman for Union Pacific Railroad Company for the past 37 years. He made his home at 1677 N. Garfield Ave.
He was born Feb 29, 1888, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Samuel G. and Elizabeth Mitchell Garbett. He moved with the family to Pocatello when he was nine years old. He enlisted in the Army when World War I broke out. He saw combat duty with the Army Engineers in the major American battles in Europe.
He married Essie Butts June 1, 1921 in Pocatello.
He was a member of Pocatello Post No. 735, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors besides his wido include, three brothers and five sisters: A.D. Garbett, Boise; George Garbett, Pocatello; Ed Garbett and Mrs. Anona Smith, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. ALice Cameron, Rupert; and Mrs. Margaret Gray, Mrs. Lillian O'Sullivan, and Mrs. Genevieve Akins all of Long beach, Calif.
Burial will be in Mountainview Cematery under the direction of Downard Mortuary. |
