Above is a photo of my cat, who was named E.T. She was born sometime in 1988. Shortly after she was born her mother ran away with another of her kittens. We moved to another house in the community (cause we were renting before), and kept her as an inside cat. Eventually we got her fixed (and declawed). She got used to going outside, but it took her a little while.
One thing that I found amazing about her was that she knew right when I was coming home from school. When I was still going to school, she would sit on the back of the couch waiting... As soon as she saw the yellow on the school bus, she would be off the couch and waiting at the door for someone to let her out. She would always meet me in the driveway.
I took good care of her (and spoiled her a little) so she was always around me. I remember one day my mother and I went to set some rabbit snares, and the cat followed me. I went to set a snare, and next thing I know the cat is running down the path meowing with a snare around her neck. It's a good thing that I hadn't attacked the snare to the tree very well, as curiosity would have killed the cat if she hadn't of been able to get away from the tree.
As for her favorite foods, I remember she really liked processed cheese, like what you may place between two slices of an English muffin. She also loved plain donuts, especially the ones from d'Eon's Bakery in Pubnico. She loved to lay in her back and have her belly rubbed. (photos to be posted) She actually got along with my pet mice and hamster. She liked to play with them some, but she wouldn't actually bite them.
Twelve years later, and was still going strong. She had a little bit of arthritis in her front legs though. I remember the night before she passed away, she was having trouble walking. I awoke the next morning and was unable to find her before I left for work. I called home from work and inquired as to how she was. My mother basically said she wasn't sure where the cat was, then said "Oh, wait. Here she is, dead under the chair by the phone." My thought at that time was "Um, okay. Thanks for breaking the news to me so nicely mom..."
After E.T. passed, I had her cremated and her remains placed in an urn and returned to me. The urn is presently sitting on a shelf in my bedroom next to a lantern. She passed away sometime on a Sunday night or early on a Monday morning. So every Sunday night before going to bed, a tea candle is placed into the lantern and is lit. It goes out at some point in the night, sort of signifying the end of E.T.'s life. Some people find this strange, but she was like a daughter to me.
