Cuts, Censorship, and Changes:

• During the first few appearances of SailorMercury and SailorMars DIC either cut some of the transformation sequence or changed it to remove the breast and body lines.

• Later episodes consistently remove the lines for all four Senshi. SailorMars' attacks were cut because they showed some panty shots. The original is just a bit cooler.

• Zoisite and Kunzite (Malachite) in the original were homosexuals, both being male. The dub changed Zoisite to a flat-chested woman, with the MOST annoying laugh in the world! (Note: They were only gay in the anime, not the manga.)

• In the "Sailor Says!" segments they use rather often some of the the cut scenes (why? Got me!). Some signs written in Japanese writing were cut. Like the school's sign has been edited to read "Crossroads Junior High" in English. (When it said Juu-ban in japanese)

• Various scenes of staring up skirts, leering at women, etc, were cut also. In episode 2, where Umino (Melvin), under mental influence from a villain, stares up the teacher's skirt, was completely deleted.

• Rei's (Raye) grandfather is a dirty old man, but they change everything that he says to the girls who come to his temple to buy lucky charms (no, not the cereal!).

• Sailor Uranus dresses as a male (and is mistaken for one), and sometimes flirts with other girls (including Usagi). But they got rid of all these scenes. In the anime, Sailor Neptune says she's not SailorUranus' girlfriend, even though there's clearly romantic tension between them. They do not kiss in the anime but they do in the Manga. (And Haruka does kiss Usagi (Serena) also in the manga).

• Uranus and Neptune are associated with homosexuality in some versions of astrology, with Neptune specifically feminine and Uranus masculine. Uranus is considered an androgynous planet. Neptune in mythology was the patron god of homosexuals. And Haruka is a hermaphrodite in the manga. ("both male and female").

• The Starlights are naturally female in the manga. But in the Anime they change from male to female.

• The North American version doesn't use the original Japanese opening or ending credits (which in my opinion are much cooler than the ones they picked!). They use the original opening melody (not the original music!) as both the opening and closing, with new words. All music in the series has been removed, including the music used when Tuxedo Mask appears, (this *AWESOME* spanish tune goes on!).They changed the music used for the transformation scenes, and the flute used by Alan (Earl) in SailorMoon R (which gets VERY annoying!).

• All the dialogue has been completely rewritten, they changed major dialogues and turned them into jokes or stupid comments. They changed serious scenes to a funny ones and the reverse.

• The scenes where Queen Beryl sees a scene in her crystal ball were dub inventions (except for episode 29).

• Episodes in the dub with songs in them did have songs in the original. (like the song "Carry On" or "It's a New Day" in the "Day of Destiny" episode). The only exception is dub episode 17, where the song was deleted. The dub songs are sometimes from the series, but not necessarily from the same episode.

• For those who wonder about "Sailor Says", the dub adds this moral at the end, because TV stations in the US are required to have a certain percentage of kids' shows with educational content.

• Rei (Raye) slapping Usagi (Serena) *twice*, the death of the four Senshi, Usagi (Serena) spanking Rini, Rini shooting Usagi (Serena) with a toy gun, Prince Endymion (Darien) kicking SailorMoon in the stomach under Beryl's influence producing her to draw some blood out of her mouth, SailorMercury slapping SailorMoon, and one episode where a monster strangles SailorMoon.

EPISODES 45-46 (MY FAVE'S)

Ok, these are two of my favorite episodes and DIC totally screwed them up!!! They were originally 2 episodes but DIC turned them into a single episode (how? well, getting rid of all the cool stuff!)

These episodes end the first series of SailorMoon. In them, all the Sailor Senshi are killed (though they're revived in time for the next series. I read in a site that the Japanese TV stations received tons of calls from angry parents when these episodes first came on, but I don't think they are THAT bad, plus no other countries reported calls from angry parents! ^_^).

The dub combines 45-46 into one standard length episode where nobody dies. They cut out all the violent and cool scenes (Queen Beryl ordering Prince Endymion (Darien) to cut SailorMoon's head off, or SailorMars (and later Mercury) slapping SailorMoon in the face, Prince Endymion (Darien) kicking SailorMoon really hard, Luna asking SailorMoon not to use the Moon Cosmic Power because if she does she will die just like her mother did...etc) ( I WAS SO MAD WHEN I WATCHED THE ORIGINAL AND REALIZED EVERYTHING THAT I MISSED!)
