Syaoran uses the lasin board/compass to locate any clow cards. There's a beam of blue light directing him to the location of the clow card. The lasin board/compass was being handed down to him from his family.
This book was created by a very powerful magician called Clow Reed. The book was created to seal all the magical cards inside. On the cover there's "The Guardian Beast Of The Seal" called Keroberus. His symbol is the sun. On the back of the book there's the symbol of the moon which represents Yue. There's also the symbol of The Clow's magic circle.
In the 2nd series Sakura turned the Clow Book into the Sakura Book. Which also means the Clow cards have to be changed into Star cards to make them more powerful. So you guessed it, the book contains Star/Sakura cards!
In the 2nd series Sakura turned the Clow cards into Sakura/Star cards. She found out that the card would weaken if they weren't transformed. But it took a lot of her energy since now she's not using the actual clow magic anymore and using her own.
