THE CYNIC
Victory
Close enough to see
yet just out of reach
Like a hand of solitaire
dealt in an unfortunate order
but for one or two changes
I could have won

Desire
Tasting what one cannot eat
Seeing what eludes your grasp
Like window shopping
knowing you could never afford
what mocks you through the glass

Memories
Cruel reminders of lost youth
To recall the innocence
a time of simple joys
Like one who once could run
and now is paralyzed

Wisdom
A view from above
of youthful foolishness
A wistful wish for a second chance
"If only I knew then what I know now"
the flavor of regret
