MY WORST ENEMY
I'm tired of feeling my own foot in my ass
from kicking myself over things in the past
"I'm such an idiot" I hear myself say
"I wonder what dumb thing I'll do today"

So hard on myself, how cruel I can be
I'm truly my own worst enemy
But hey, I'm only admitting the truth
Seems the older I get, the more I goof

You'd think that by now I ought to have learned
to make better choices, and not to get burned
One of the biggest problems with me
Is I only see what I want to see

I fall for the lie, then I fall for the guy
Then I hate myself for it and wonder why
Oh sure, I have friends who console and forgive
Why can't I be nice?  Give myself a lift?

See how I am?  Now I'm hating both sides
How many of me are in this fight?
How can I win this battle within
The insults and put downs are wearing me thin

I could change my name, or move away
I could fake my own death, but that's no escape
To myself, I need to be more of a friend
'cause wherever I go, there I am

Somehow, I'm just gonna have to make peace
and try to stop being so damned hard to please
See there?  I just did it again
For hating myself, it seems there's no end

But the one thing I have is the humor I find
I can laugh at myself - I just kill me sometimes
Is laughter the best medicine?  It must be true
So, welcome to the land of the easily amused

I can ease the pain I inflict on myself
With a dose of "funny" for my mental health
If that's too hard to swallow, and I feel myself choke
Fuck me, if I can't take a joke
