Executive Summary

This first section depicts the brief descriptions of the network implementation in _______, which summarizes the whole project into a report for the executives, the condensed digest to overview the whole plan, today's and in the future of the entire Information Technology (IT) solution provided, the solved challenges by current improvements to the future possibilities.

Purpose of the Project

The objective of this project is to provide

• an integrated new data cabling system,
• a strong and reliable backbone,

replacing the the already installed on each site. Then the transfer speed between workstations and servers should be increased.

Brief Design Information

The Design is made as simple as it should be with anticipation of network changes in the future, using fiber optic at the backbone and the UTP from the active devices to the workstations. The network design is based on the collapsed backbone style, which currently widely used.

Implementation Issues

There was hardly any technical constraint in implementation, because BHp had implemented the cabling infrastructure once at CB. The cabling will be the main issue during implementation, so professional labeling would be of benefit. Understanding internetworking concept is one of the main objectives, which could implement the solution optimally.

Benefits

After the updates to current network, the performance will be more reliable to the whole network system. With the total Cisco switching solution, the network management and troubleshooting would be easily done through the console or any workstation by telnet facilities supported.

Fiber optic cabling implementation will be of no danger at all from the lightning strike, which is one of the issues in CB for the networking infrastructure.

Strategic Recommendations

Cisco System end-to-end solution was recommended. First, because Cisco is the most stable internetworking company with the most worldwide support availability compared to others and one of the most outstanding companies in the world. With this strategy, it will cover the future anticipation for internetworking improvement.

Fiber Optics

Fiber optics solution offered is the answer of the disability of the UTP cable to reach more than 100m. This would be an anticipation of the future requirement of the gigabit Ethernet connecting between rooms too.

Firewall

This Firewall freezes the NT Server holes which are very weak from intruders.

Leased-line

Because of the increase of the quantity of the networked workstations, which need the connection to the internet, the current dial-ups are not enough anymore. To accomplish this requirement, the leased-line with the baseband of 64Kbps would be the most common solution implemented. By this, the telephone line usage for the internet is bundled once a month with an unlimited access. A LAN solution should have been implemented first before this solution.

A router would do this connection through the synchronous modems at the ISP site and the customer site, which service might differ from the leased-line provider.

Wireless

Wireless solution is one of the most updated solutions offered in networking nowadays, with which the site mobility is supported. The solution is chosen because of the impossibility to connect between sites with the physical wire.

With the currently increased bandwidth to 11Mbps from the previous 2Mbps, it is possible as if running Ethernet on the air between the ____________ buildings. The new feature of 128-bit encryption makes the data transferred become very secure. This wireless solution supports the Voice over IP, which could be seen by the ability of pinging packets.
