Macro Virus

This is an IT Security alert. Kindly please take note of the following:
If you have received an e-mail that looks like the following :
______________________________________________________________

From : { Name of infected user }
Subject : Important Message From { Name of infected user }
To : { 50 names from alias list }

Here is that document you asked for ... don't show anyone else ;-)

Attachment : LIST.DOC
______________________________________________________________

Kindly please adhere to the procedure below:
(1) DO NOT launch the file.
(2) DELETE the mail immediately.
(3) Make sure you have ENABLED the macro virus protection in your WORD97.

You could check this by activating your WORD97. From the top menu of WORD97,
click on TOOLS. Then, select OPTIONS. Click on the GENERAL tab and tick the
checkbox that says MACRO VIRUS PROTECTION.

With this setting, whenever you open a WORD97 document that has a macro, WORD97 would prompt you as to whether you would want to run the macro, you should reply NO. If you reply YES, the macro would be launched and your PC would be infected with the virus ( i.e. if the document with the macro carries a virus ).

The LIST.DOC file contains the Melissa virus (see below for more info).

W97M.Melissa is a virulent and widespread computer macro virus found on
Friday, 26 March'99. It has spread all over the globe within just hours of initial
discovery. The virus spreads by e-mailing itself automatically from one user to
another.

To double-check that Macro Virus Protection is enabled in your Microsoft Word, you can do the following:

1. Start MS Word
2. Click on Tools
3. Click on Options
4. Click on General tab
5. Check the Macro Virus Protection check box
6. Check the Confirm conversion at Open check box
7. Click on Save tab
8. Check the Prompt to save Normal template check box
9. Click on OK

Warning on December 25, 1999 you may receive an email Lump of Coal...
Do not open it, it contains a deadly virus...it will erase your windows along with many other program files.
Pass this on as soon as you can to get the WORD out!!! This is not a hoax.... This was reported on the CBS morning news August 20,1999.

Subject: Hindari Virus

Dear all,
