This is an old, old game which young children still love to play.

Children sit in a circle.

The child who is "IT" walks around the circle touching the heads of each child and saying, "Duck, duck, duck, etc." as he/she touches each child's head.

"IT" chooses the child who will chase him/her by saying, "GOOSE" when touching their head.

"GOOSE" chases "IT" around the circle and tries to get to "GOOSE'S" place in the circle before being tagged.

If "GOOSE" tags "IT" before "IT" sits in "GOOSE'S" space, "IT" sits in the middle of the circle.

The child who was "IT" stays in the middle of the circle until they are replaced by someone else who runs fast enough to tag "IT" before "IT" sits in "GOOSE'S" space.

If "IT" sits down in "GOOSE'S" space before being tagged, the game goes on with "GOOSE" being the new person to be "IT".

You can change the words from "DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE" to other words which fit into the curriculum.  For example, when we were studying volcanoes we said "MAGMA, MAGMA, LAVA" to represent the concept that magma is molten rock within the earth's core and that it's called lava when it comes to the surface.
