Today is the 15th of February and a big holiday starts in Russia, it
is called Maslenitsa. This is a week holiday which symbolizes the end of
winter and the meeting of spring.
It is famous that all families make" blins"- pan cakes. All the people
participate in different amusements- play snow balls, make snow men.
Horse riding is also very popular.
Pancakes look like the Sun may be that is why we make them greeting
spring. It is a tradition to invite guests and feed them with pan-cakes.
There are families where hundreds of them are made. During the last day
of Maslenitsa people burn the doll made of straw, a kind of scarecrow,
and this symbolizes the end of winter.
It is interesting to know if other nationalities have their holidays
to meet spring.
