All Saints' Day
 

It is an ancient holiday throughout that in days of you it was celebrating the beginning of Agrarian Year, at the vernal equinox on the 9th March old style.
In time this day there were superposed two holidays, this one as well as the last day of Dochia. She dies and transforms herself into stone block.

The custom from All Saints' Day forms a scenario, a specific ritual: The preparation of little saints or martyrs, that is some pretzels in form of number 8; The ritual inebriation about that in popular tradition it says that it enlivens the organism, drinking forty-four glasses with wine; The opening of graves and the gates of Heaven; The purification of people and cattle through sprinkling with holy water; The ground is beaten with the sticks for chasing of cold; The cutting of first grape-wine tales.

The form of number eight to the twist represents the divinity that was marking the New Year celebrated at the vernal equinox. As ritual food, these twists are eaten every year on the 9th March.
Măcinicii

Este o sărbătoare străveche prin care, în vechime se celebra începutul de An agrar, la echinocțiul de primăvară, 9 martie pe stil vechi. În timp, această sărbătoare s-a suprapus două sărbători, aceasta, precum și ultima zi a Dochiei. Ea moare și se preface în stană de piatră.

Obiceiurile din ziua de Măcinici formează un scenariu-ritual specific: Prepararea sfințișorilor sau măcinicilor, adică niște covrigi în forma cifrei 8; Beția tradițională despre care se spune în tradiția populară că înviorează organismul, bând 44 de pahare de vin;
Deschiderea mormintelor și porților raiului; Purificarea oamenilor și a vitelor prin stropire cu apă sfințită; Pământul se bate cu maiul, pentru alungarea frigului; Tăierea primelor corzi de viță de vie.

Forma cifrei 8 a colăceilor reprezintă divinitatea care marca Anul Nou sărbătorit la echinocțiul de primăvară. Ca aliment ritual, aceștia sunt mâncați în fiecare an, la 9 martie.
