Céline Dion
Céline Marie Claudette
Dion was born March 30th in 1968 in Charlemagne, near Montreal. She got
her name from a song "Dis moi Céline", which her mother sang when
she was pregnant. She told her mother she wants to be singer when she was
12 years old.
In January 1983 she represents
Canada in Disque et de l'Edition musicale. She won with the song "D'amour
ou d'amitié". She was one of the artists who recorded a specially
written song, "Les yeux de la faim..." to fight starvation in Ethiopia
in 1985. 1989 is the year when Céline prepared for her international
career, taking English-lessons at Berlitz.
"Where does my heart beat
now" earned a position on the Billboard, where it stayed for 24 weeks,
climbing up to the 4th position in the Hot 100 Single in 1991 January 5th.
Céline received her
first World Music Award in Monte Carlo, in the category Canadian Singer
who was the best seller in May 92. In the beginning of 1996 Céline
received Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French goverment,
they said Céline was the best French artist then. Céline
won her first Golden Globe for "My heart will go on". The same thing happened
at the Oscars there "Titanic" received eleven awards, including Best Song.
