Whitney Houston
One of my favourite singers
is Whitney Houston. She was born August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey.
She has become the Biggest Selling Female Artist of all Time with Worldwide
album/ single sales of over 145 million and counting.
Whitney has been singing
since her days as a member of the New Hope Baptist Junior Choir in Newark
where she was a Soloist at the age of 11.
Her first single, "You Give
Good Love" went To No 3 on the Charts, and was followed by three Number
1 hits. She won her first Grammy Ward for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female
for "Saving All My Love For You" and also won a MTV Video Music Award in
1986 for Best Female Video For "How Will I Know."
In between making music,
Whitney formed the Whitney Houston Foundation For Children in 1989. The
non-profit organization works to assist a variety of children's issues
including homelessness, cancer, AIDS, and youth self-empowerment.
In 1990, Whitney released
"I'm Your Baby Tonight" and one year later,Whitney could be seen on a HBO
concert she gave for the Returning troops of Desert Storm, "Welcome Home
Heroes".
In July 1992, Whitney married
Bobby Brown and also focused her professional attention to the movies and
starred opposite Kevin Costner in "The Bodyguard". In 1994, Whitney could
be found singing songs from The Bodyguard on many award Shows, and then
returning to the stage to pick up award after award. Whitney won 3 Grammy
Awards including Record of the Year for "I Will Always Love You," Album
of The Year for the Bodyguard soundtrack, and Best Pop Vocal Performance,
Female for "I Will Always love you."
Whitney Houston appeared
on HBO October 5 with "Classic Whitney," a live performance from Washington.
In November 1998, Whitney
released her first studio album in 8 years. The first single "When you
believe" from the album titled "My love is your love" will feature Whitney's
duet for the Prince of Egypt soundtrack with Mariah Carey. Rumored rivalry
by the two divas seems to be just that rumored.
