Arta Florescu
My favorite singer is
Arta Florescu.
She made her debut on the
stage of the Bucharest Opera House in 1942, in the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor"
by Donizetti. At the age of 20, she asserted herself, all of a sudden,
in a very difficult part, as one of the most outstanding representatives
of Romanian musical life. A student of professor Claudia Saghin at the
Bucharest Conservatoire, being also taught by her mother, a talented musician,
brought up in a family with a remarkable musical vocation, the young artist
had the opportunity to mould her personality under the guidance of such
famous professors as Mihail Jora and Constantin Brailoiu. Later on, she
acquired fame alongside an entire generation of great Romanian musicians,
composers and conductors such as Ionel Perlea, Alfred Alessandrescu, Theodor
Rogalski, Constantin Silvestri under whose baton she had appeared quite
often in symphony concerts.
For about 3 decades, she
had been one of most outstanding soloists of the Bucharest Opera, touring
several foreign countries either by herself or together with the ensemble
of the opera, performing almost all the leading parts of the classical
and modern opera repertoire, singing or appearing in symphony concerts.
A repertoire in permanent
elaboration, a genuine offensive as far as the study of new parts was concerned,
an inspiring performance of Romanian and world contemporary music with
that particular gift and touch of elegance which lend a distinct impressive
character to the musical act, are making her unique career.
