A Form a Self-expression
I too love music and
share the appreciation for well-written work. I believe that music, for
both the performer and the audience, is a form of self-expression in one
of the most admirable levels of one's life. Writing and singing has always
for me been a form of both energy release and energy source. Throughout
my life I have been drawn to musicians for our mutual love of this art.
I do not think of this as being biased. I enjoy being around these kinds
of people because they inspire me to experience and live in rapture of
what they themselves create, beginning with a picture or idea in their
head, and transferring it through their body into a poignant melody or
touching words.
What I would like to discuss
with anyone of you out there is the sudden abandonment for quality music.
I'm talking about boy bands, Brittney Spears, sugary adolescent pop-groups
and the commercialized Barbies and Kens of the music business. Yes, emphasis
on the "business" parts. There have been more and more examples of people
with little, or absolutely no, musical talent being made icons for our
generation by big production companies. With the help of modern technologies
ranging from voice synthesizers to make-up, we are condemned to see little
plastic girls and boys prance around trying to be sexy and cool every time
we turn on MTV. Whatever happened to smart lyrics? Or melodies that spur
emotions? Or simply people who can write and perform their own individual
kind of music? I think these commercialized fake so salled musicians with
their money making scams are in ways a disrespect for this art form. Music
is one of the most raw, personal ways to express yourself and that should
be reason enough to value it.
I am not writing this as
a way of complaining and whining about something that has become almost
a defining factor of our generation. I am writing this as a hope to make
others think not only about the fakeless of particular teen pop idols but
as well as other people in our lives. Look for truth in people, and have
faith in being able to meet people who inspire and compliment you. Believe
in the strength of the individual. I know here are others who feel the
same way. If we keep on believing in this, hopefully we will be able to
conserve the real beauties in life. And I do not mean flat abs, matching
costumes, and pleas for "pick me baby one more time." It is just "cause
I want it that way."
