IN MEMORY

On
24 March 1989
The Exxon Valdez
ran aground in
Valdez Harbor,
Prince William Sound,
Alaska
1,500 miles of Alaskan coastline was covered in crude oil

It is estimated that:

- 2,800 sea otters
- 250,000 seabirds
- 300 harbor seals
- 250 bald eagles
- 22 killer whales
- and an unkown number of fish
and other sealife
were killed.

Over ten years later Prince William Sound is still soiled with oil. The livelihood of fishing families is still lost. The Sound still has not recovered.

Please take a moment to give silent thoughts.

Sharon, Boomer J. Foxworthy, Lady Susitna, and family.

Note of Irony: As a Disaster Operations Specialist Trainee for the State of Alaska, in 1979, I wrote a paper on such a disaster being possible. I receive a very low mark because I was told this could NEVER happen with all the safeguards in place. When it did happen, I won a battle for my paper, but the world lost the war.
