I came into the world in October 1966 in Blackburn, England and grew up in the market town of Guisborough.

In April 1986 I left the North East to go to university.  My home for 4 years became London where I spent 6 months a year at Brunel University reading Sociology and Psychology and six months at the Bethlem Royal and Maudsley hospitals training as a psychiatric nurse.

1990 saw me graduate with a degree and a qualification as a Registered Mental Nurse.  Uncertain as to what career I wanted to follow I decided to further my academic studies, moving to Bristol to undertake a masters degree in information Technology at the then Bristol Polytechnic. It was here that I met Philip, the man who I was to marry six years later in July 1996.

In 1991 I finally joined the ratrace, working in the National Health Service in the field of Clinical Audit in Barnsley, London, Sheffield and finally Gateshead, where I continued to work until September 1996.  At this time Phil's job relocated, so in October 1996, having sold our home I found myself aboard an plane heading for North Carolina, USA.

After 2 years of being unable to work I finally obtained a work permit. During my time off I spent a lot of time thinking about what I would like to do should I be able to return to work. For as long as I could remember I had an interest in animal health and wellbeing and decided to pursue that interest. I returned to work as a veterinary technician in 1998, and now work at a practice near to home. While enjoying the veterinary field my passion remains human healthcare. In 2002 I began studying for my MBA / MS in Health Care Administration at the University of Maryland, my intention being to resume a career in healthcare administration.
