Saw "Blades of Glory" tonight. It was funnier than I expected but it did have quite a few moments where it fell flat on its face. It was interesting to hear different parts of the audience laughing at different scenes. Only in a few spots did everyone seem to laugh together. If I was rating it I'd give it a C+ which means nothing to anyone reading this as its the only movie I've ever reviewed on line.
I don't go out to see movies much, in fact this is the first movie I've seen locally since I moved "up north". I've seen a couple "down state", specifically three: "Hidalgo", "LoTR - Return of the King", and a movie I can't remember the name of, a "chick flick" comedy about older women posing nude for a calender which was based on a true story.
I don't see many movies in theaters any more for a lot of reasons. One, is up here what we have for movie theaters are the old ones cut up into tiny rooms with tiny screens and tinny sound. I suppose I should be happy there are any movie theaters at all, but it's hard to appreciate a place where the only resemblance to a good movie theater is the sticky floors and scratchy screen fillers depicting oddly colored hot dogs, cartoon popcorn and still shots asking everyone to keep quiet. It did only cost $6.75 on a Saturday night though. I have no idea if that's the normal cost or a cheaper 7 pm rate.
Another reason I gave up going out to the movies is screaming children, cell phones, people talking, and people getting up and down obscuring the screen. Many years ago I once went to a movie, "Reds" with two roommates and one of them wouldn't shut up during the entire film no matter how many times I told her to be quiet. Why see a movie if all you're going to do is talk through it? It's not as though she was saying anything important. I never went to another movie with her.
It's also hard to go to the movies when the theater is nearly an hour drive and at night there are a lot of deer hazards. Haven't hit one yet and don't want to though it's probably inevitable if you live here long enough. Plus because the population is so small, the movies don't last long. I intended to see LoTR up here but it left after a week. Then there is finding someone to go with, DH doesn't care for the noisy crowd problems I mentioned earlier, or the drive either and at times our tastes in movies diverge to the extreme. He doesn't mind some of the gorier movies and he hates musicals. (not that there are many of those these days, either.
We never rent movies either but watch whatever shows up on TV and whenever one of the premium channels has a free weekend. So I guess there aren't going to be a lot of movie reviews on this blog. Which is just as well, since it's supposed to be about my dogs anyway!
