Pippy is an adorable 12 year old mini-dachshund. She came to live with me and my husband, Gary, 11-1/2 years ago, when she was just 17 months old, from
a family who just didn't want her any more. When she was almost 11 years old, in the winter of 1998, Pippy went suddenly blind . We made an appointment with a specialist and then the verdict, Pippy was totally blind. She had SARDS. Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome. There was no known cause and no treatment available. She would remain blind for the rest of her life. Well, we both learned to adjust, and I joined the Blind dog Email List and made new friends who helped ME through the adjustment period.

As the summer went on, Pippy was adjusting well to her blindness, but then another tragedy struck in October, 1998. She developed Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA) and
was near death in a matter of hours. We consulted a specialist who was very familiar in treating this potentially fatal disease, and she pulled through. Six weeks later, Pippy developed more complications and was back in the Intensive Care Unit again. She recovered again with the prayers of all her friends. At this writing, she is a recovering
survivor of this disease, that is, she is in remission, that is all that matters.

Well, Pippy is very happy, and she knows that she has good friends, a great doctor, a family that loves her, and angels watching over her. We are all very happy and grateful to have
our wonderful dog.

Pippy here again. Did you know that I am now in a book?? It is called the Blind Dogs Story book. It is a book all about us blind dogs and how we adjusted to being blind. It is a book about folks telling their story of their blind dogs's deeds, from their day to day adventure to heroism. Of course, I am the only doxie on the cover, the cute one with the red bear is ME!! See the cover of the book at
