King’s Quest III:
To Heir is Human
Plot summary
After discovering that Manannan leaves
his home and goes to sleep at a regular schedule, Gwydion can explore the
forbidden areas of his house and even leave it, go down the narrow path
leading down the mountain and explore the countryside of Llewdor. He finds
Manannans spellbook and wand and starts to collect the ingredients needed
for the different spells in the book. On his explorations he meets an oracle
that tells him the true story of his origins. Gwydion learns that he is
really a prince in a faraway land called Daventry. Apparently, his mother
Valanice gave birth to twins 18 years ago, but Manannan came to Daventry
and kidnapped him as a baby. Then a three-headed dragon invaded the country
and has been terrorizing it ever since. Once a year a maiden must be sacrificed
to the dragon, and this year the turn has come to Gwydion's twin sister,
Princess Rosella. Gwydion now knows what he has to do. He defeats Manannan
by making a magical cookie that turns the one who eats it into a cat. Hiding
the cookie in Manannan's food, he manages to turn him into a black cat.
Alexander leaves his prison and buys a ride on a ship on its way to Daventry.
But it turns out that the ship is a pirate ship and Alexander is held captive
in it. Using his newly aquired magical skills, he manages to escape from
the ship and arrives at a sandy beach on the other side of the ocean. After
a long and perilous journey over the mountains he finally arrives in Daventry,
where a gnome tells him that his real name is Prince Alexander. He then
saves his sister from the three-headed dragon. The royal family is happily
reunited after many years of sorrow. King Graham decides that it is time
to pass on his adventurer's cap to one of his children. He hurls it through
the air towards Alexander and Rosella. Who will catch it?
