This wonderful poem was written to me, by my dear husband.
River
As years flow by like a river,
the love we shared in the beginning
deepens, and the current slows
Long distance, time and many bends
have calmed the furious early pace,
gentled the turbulent starting course set by us, together
Allowing us to share....to value the changing
vistas of our life
So many things divert the course we see ahead,
as we stream tween life and the unalterable fact of death
We gather in, together, so many memories; some good, some bad,
and carry them along with us
Our love allowing us to share, and bear, the burden of them all
Our first kiss
The first time that we made love
Our children....we both shared the making
and the raising of them all
Our first house....we finally could afford
How poor, yet how rich we always seemed to be
Our fights and arguments that we tried to make up for
As the river of our love grows and widens,
we find the burdens easier to bear....to share
We see that underlying passion runs deeper than we knew
Far deeper than the surface seen above
Far wider than the limits set by love
