This movie may sound slightly stupid...and it is. It's a sort of romantic comedy thing, without much romance or comedy. This is one of those movies that doesn't offer a lot except being a popcorn brain vacation...exactly why one can watch it numerous times (I've seen Judge Dredd more times than I care to admit). The Good: Love Bites is somewhat fun to watch. The actors are pretty good at what they do, and the script isn't bad. Like Hedwig and the Angry Inch, this movie is an adaptation of a stage play, but written/directed by Marmorstein, who did the play also. It's great to watch when, as I was, one is lazing about the house with no particular direction for the next two hours. The Bad: As with most comedies, it's only slightly funny. Some things intended to be funny are just stupid, but that usually happens with this genre. That, and there were no monkeys with shotguns. Someday I'll see that, and I can die complete. Love Bites isn't bad. It's not great, but it's worth watching. And it has an appearance by the ever wonderful Julie Strain (her appearance being the main factor driving me to review this). If you see this film for rent, congratulations, or you can probably catch it any time of day on one of the 300 Showtime channels. |
