This movie both frightened and confused me. Sci Fi Original Pictures follow certain rules, acting, writing, and set design range from hideously poor to just plain absent. This movie broke the rules. Not only were the actors familiar to me, but they ACTED. They were by no means Acadamy Award worthy, but they were certainly above average for Sci Fi. I could not bring myself to hate any of them, and I realized about halfway through the movie that I actually gave a damn about whether or not these little bastards made it out. What's more, when they started dying off (as they do in sci fi movies), I was actually kind of sad. The sets, costumes and CG were passable. There was some obvious greenscreening, and the laser on the little underground digging craft looked downright goofy. But overall, it looked ok, especially for a made-for-tv flick. It was a little colorless and grey, and the computers looked wrong, but I can't find anything really serious to complain about. The writing wasn't god-awful either. Again, not great, but not bad. It had it's fair share of scientific inaccuracies, but the bulk of them were acceptable. No scene or moment really struck me as amazing, but I'll never look at solitaire the same way again. The movie wasn't particularly funny, or moving or exciting, I really can't figure out what it was trying to do. I gave this movie an "ok" because I found this movie so utterly non- offensive, that I actually like it. It could be because these movies typically leave me feeling robbed of the precious two hours I spent watching them, that when this movie was so not-bad, I actually felt like I had seen something good. |
