The Ennead of Heliopolis

This creation myth began with Ra-Atum the Supreme or Universal Sun-God, who was hatched from the cosmic egg, around which the serpent Apep was curled. In the seasonal round he was depicted in his serpent-shaped Solar Barque being towed across land and water through the 12 double-hours or Kingdoms of the day.
He gave rise to Shu and Tefnut, whose sexual union gave rise to Geb and Nut. Shu helps separate Geb and Nut after coupling, to make room for the human, animal and plant forms on Earth. From Geb and Nut came four children, Osiris, Isis, Seth and Nephthys.
